Are Police Fair to Underage Partygoers?
After receiving three MIP’s in one year I have become increasingly knowledgeable about underage drinking. When police arrive at a party where teens are drinking they most often do not breathalyze everyone at the party but instead in many cases, issue a minor in possession charge to everyone attending the party. The police do not know to whom the alcohol belongs to or if everyone at the party was actually drinking, which in turn forces the people who received the charge to defend him or herself in the court of law. That is exactly what happened to me in my two most recent MIP charges, which after approximately six months are still in dispute. I hired a lawyer to help me avoid receiving MIP charges and I highly suggest anyone who has been given an MIP to do the same. If people eighteen and older were not restricted against drinking then these issues would not be as common as they currently are today and less teens would have minor charges involving alcohol that can potentially affect their future with employment.
